Who should NOT hire a VA

From years of working with all kinds of clients I have found the following are not a good fit...

  • Those who do not find it easy to trust. Trust is a very important aspect of the virtual relationship. Once you have checked references and interviewed thoroughly, be guided by your instincts and then be prepared to trust your VA. It is her job to look out for your best interests
  • If you do not respect the role of an assistant it is best you do not hire a VA. A professional VA will have zero tolerance for disrespect or for those who view the administrative role as an inferior role.
  • Any individual who is not able to stay in communication with their VA on a fairly consistent basis wouldn't be a good fit.
  • If you strongly resist good time management and seem to thrive on operating in a state of chaos or crisis mode, working with a VA would not be a mutually rewarding business relationship.
  • If you do not desire to use technology (at minimum a telephone and a computer connected to the Internet via a high speed connection), it is best you do not work with a Virtual Assistant. PS - Dial-up doesn’t work well for this way of doing business.
  • If you have a strong need to micro-manage and tend to be a control freak, you will not have the flexibility necessary to allow a VA to manage herself and her work. A VA is an independent business owner, not an employee. As such, she manages her time, her work load and it is important you know how to let go.
